Street Fighter IV Arcade Sticks Announced

It's surprising that Capcom decided to go with an American company like Mad Catz to release their Street Fighter peripherals; negative comments on Kotaku aside though, I'm pretty sure that the guys at Capcom really know what they're doing.

People never got excited about Pelican accessories until their PS2 to PS3 converter hit store shelves, and now they are coveted items on eBay. I look forward to seeing what Mad Catz has in store for us!

Press Release: Mad Catz to make Street Fighter IV line of controllers

SAN DIEGO - (Business Wire) Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. (AMEX/TSX: MCZ), a leading third-party interactive entertainment accessory provider, announced today that it has secured a license from Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of videogames, to produce branded controllers and accessories based on the Street Fighter® IV, Bionic Commando® and Resident Evil® 5 videogame properties. The agreement gives Mad Catz North American and European rights to a range of accessories for all current videogame platforms, including the PC.

“We are excited to partner with Capcom to create branded controllers and accessories based on three of the videogame industry’s most popular and enduring franchises,” said Darren Richardson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz. “We look forward to offering unique and exciting accessories to fans of these games, as we continue to grow and diversify what we believe to be the industry’s leading portfolio of branded videogame accessories.”

“This is a real collaboration between Mad Catz and Capcom,” said Germaine Gioia, senior vice president, licensing, Capcom. “We are developing a broad variety of game peripherals for a wide game-playing audience — from the casual to the most loyal, core fan. These innovative peripherals will maximize the overall experience that comes from playing Capcom games.”

It's good that arcade sticks are being released... let's just hope they're top-notch quality. I wonder what kind of RE5 accessory Mad Catz will come up with. I was thinking about getting that Pelican PS2 to PS3 converter at one point but apparently the controllers don't have rumble through it so I decided to pass on them.

Hey Masa, what system do you think you're getting SFIV for? If you don't have both systems you should take a look at this Stacker 2 contest going on where you can win a PS3 or Xbox 360... right now there are less than 250 entrants, and all you have to do is design a 6 Hour Power t-shirt (which is surprisingly easy to do online). Check out the contest details here: http://www.brickfish.com/Entertainment/Stacker2?tab=overview

By the way, I hope you don't mind me commenting on the site. I work with 6HP so let me know if you have any questions about the contest or their drink. Definitely let me know if you decide to enter, and I'll vote for your design. Same goes to any of the site's readers. Good luck if you decide to enter.
